One reason that a treaty was needed was the lawless behaviour of some of the British Settlers like whalers. It matters because this poor behaviour of the whalers was having a negative effect on Maori. In Kororareka whalers would go out to sea and stay for months hunting sperm whales, then they came back to shore and caused a whole lot of drunken trouble. It all led to Prostitution and lots of fights between whalers and Maori. To sum it up the whalers came to shore after months at sea and caused a lot of trouble, which led to more problems.                               

Another reason that a treaty was needed was to protect Māori rights. One group that felt strongly about this was the missionaries. Missionaries felt that the Maori rights weren’t being protected. The missionaries and the Maori had a good relationship, missionaries also taught the Maori how to read and write. Missionaries were worried about people buying all the Maori land so they bought large quantities of land, sometimes as a type of trustee. To sum it up the missionaries wanted to protect the rights of Maori, so they did everything in their power to do so.

Plan: 

1. Paint the cardboard box black, and cover up all the holes. Flicker white paint over the back of the cardboard box to create the star effect. 

2. Start making the planets with paper mache, paint the planets to the  colour shown above (In the diagram). 

3. Use the string and attach it to the planets, cut some holes in the top of the box, thread the string through it and hold the planets in place. 

4. Finish the touch ups1

Conclusion: 

In the end, we eneded up changing all the planets to ping pong balls as they were easier to work with and made it look better, out sun is still made with paper mache. Something I would do better next time would be to add more detail! 

The Nuremberg Laws

 THE NUREMBERG LAWS

At their annual party rally held in Nuremberg in September 1935, the Nazi leaders announced new laws based on many of the racial theories common in Nazi beliefs. These "Nuremberg Laws" excluded German Jews from Reich citizenship and prohibited them from marrying or having sexual relations with persons of "German or German-related blood." Additional regulations to these laws deprived them of most political rights. Jews were disenfranchised (that is, they had no right to vote) and could not hold public office. 

The Nuremberg Laws did not identify a "Jew" as someone with particular religious beliefs. Instead, the first amendment to the Nuremberg Laws defined anyone who had three or four Jewish grandparents as a Jew, regardless of whether that individual recognized himself or herself as a Jew or belonged to the Jewish religious community. Many Germans who had not practiced Judaism (the Jewish religion) or who had not done so for years found themselves caught in the grip of Nazi terror. Even people with Jewish grandparents who had converted to Christianity could be defined as Jews. 

The Nuremberg Laws of 1935 was the start of a new wave of anti-Semitic laws that brought about immediate segregation: Jewish patients were no longer admitted to municipal hospitals in Düsseldorf, German court judges could not refer to legal commentaries or opinions written by Jewish authors, Jewish officers were expelled from the army, and Jewish university students were not allowed to sit for doctoral exams. 

Other regulations reinforced the message that Jews were outsiders in Germany; for example, in December 1935, the Reich Propaganda Ministry issued a decree forbidding Jewish soldiers to be named among the dead in World War I memorials.

I think New Zealanders would instantly start protests to shut it down because New Zealanders are very against racism.

Shark fin soup is a delicacy that you eat it is a social status it tastes like nothing but it can cost up to $100. 

Why is it a delicacy ?

It is considered a delicacy in Chinese culture, it was created by one of the emperors, the dish was created as a sign of the emperor's wealth, power and generosity.

How is shark fin soup effecting our oceans ?

The way shark fin soup effects our oceans is that when the fishermen pull out the sharks cut all their fins off then dump the body, if sharks go extinct then the ecosystem of the ocean will collapse.

What is the main message of this poem ?

The main message is that you CAN make a difference even if its a small difference. In the poem it says " He picked up another one and threw it in the ocean and said well it made a difference to that one" to me this line gave me the main message. 

The great pacific garbage patch

 The great pacific garbage patch

In the Eastern Pacific ocean is the great pacific garbage patch. This garbage patch is on the Eastern part of the Pacific Ocean, it is there because of the natural gyres, they move in a circular motion which traps the rubbish from exiting the circle. The garbage patch is there because all the rubbish that ends up there is non-biodegradable which means it can’t decompose also meaning it will just stay there. Interestingly the garbage patch has over 1.4 trillion pieces of plastic. 

One cause of the garbage patch is people littering because when people litter the wind will push the rubbish to the ocean where it will eventually make it to one of the garbage patches and it will most likely never leave the patch. 

The effect that littering has is that the litter will make its way to the garbage patch and get stuck in the gyres which will add to the already expanding garbage patch.

In conclusion I personally believe that the garbage patch is very bad for sea life.

What is the meaning behind this song ?

"In our yellow submarine" Means they live away from everyone else in their own rich neighbourhood. "We all live in a yellow submarine, Yellow submarine, Yellow submarine" Means Everyone has their own form of peace but also we all live together as one.

Beatles Music compared to 1940's music isn't very different but a couple noticeable differences are that most of the songs from the 1940's were jazz and sung very differently to what The Beatles would sing.

In reading today instead of doing normal reading I watched a video with subtitles on so I could read it. I watched a video about rugby, the video demonstrated skills that no ordinary person has. The video was about good set pieces in rugby a set piece is when the rugby team does some fancy passes to trick the other team, my favourite one was when the all blacks had the ball did an inside pass into 3 people the other team didn't know who caught it so he threw it back to another player then that player did another inside pass the guy hit the gas then did a quick little pass and then try time!

Making salts II

 Aim: To produce copper sulfate salt by reacting copper oxide with an acid.

Method: Add 20 mL of sufuric acid to a 100 mL beaker. Heat the acid until it reaches 70 Degrees Celsius. Then turn off your bunsen burner. , Once heated, use a spatula to add pea-sized portions of copper oxide to the beaker. Stir the mixture for 30 seconds. , Repeat step 2 until no more will dissolve. Allow the beaker to cool. , Fold the filter paper and place it in the funnel. Place the filter funnel into the second beaker. , Make sure the beaker is cool enough to hold at the top. The contents should still be hot. You may need your teacher to complete this step. , Gently swirl the contents of the beaker to mix, and then pour into the filter paper in the funnel. Allow to filter through. , Rinse the beaker you used to heat the mixture previously, and place it back on top of your tripod filled with 50-60 mL of water. , Place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker and carefully pour some of the solution from the beaker into the evaporating basin. , Gently heat the beaker until the solution in the evaporating basin has reduced by half. , Leave the evaporating basin to cool. Once cool, move the evaporating basin to a warm place where it will not be disturbed (i.e. a window-sill) and observe over the next few days. Blue copper sulfate crystals should form.

Results: I saw that my group did pretty well because there was n liquid left in our evaporating basin, it was great crystallisation.

Discussion: Copper oxide + Sulfuric acid = Water + Copper Sulfate, The Acid and the Oxide made water and the Copper and the Sulfuric made Copper Sulfate.

Conclusion: I think my group was successful in this experiment I wouldn't change anything about the outcome.

Reflection

 In our reading time today instead of actually reading I watched a youtube video with subtitles on so I could read it. I watched something about a game called krunker, in krunker the aim is to shoot and kill people to gain xp which gives you in game money that you can spend to buy cosmetics/items, I just watched some game play that had commentary the guy playing was really good and got 34 kills in one game (one game goes for 3 minutes and 50 seconds. I think it was a good use of my reading time.

 Aim: To test the pH of a bunch of household chemicals.

Method: Add a few drops of each chemical to a spot on your spotting tile, Test the chemicals using litmus paper, Put a few drops of Universal Indicator to test the chemicals.

Results: Toilet cleaner in blue litmus paper was red, in red litmus paper it was red, in Universal Indicator it was red. Dish washing liquid in blue litmus paper it was blue, in red litmus paper it was blue, in Universal Indicator it was Green/Yellow. Floor cleaner in blue litmus paper was blue, in red litmus paper it was Indigo, in Universal Indicator it was red. Spray and Wipe in blue litmus paper was blue, in red litmus paper it was blue, in Universal Indicator it was blue.

Discussion: If the litmus papers go blue then that means the chemical you used was a base, if the litmus paper turns red then it means the chemical is an acid. Toilet cleaner is an acid because the litmus papers turned red when dipped into the chemical. Dish washing liquid is a base because the litmus papers turned blue when dipped into the chemical. Floor cleaner is a base because the litmus papers turned indigo when dipped into the chemical. Spray and wipe is a base because the litmus papers turned blue when dipped into the chemical.

Conclusion: The experiment went good because I have already done this before so it wasn't that complicated. I wouldn't do anything differently because its pretty simple on how we have done it and you don't want it to be overly complicated.

Significance of WW1 - The Last Post

When do you hear this song ?

You Hear "The Last Post" on ANZAC day, things that have to do with war and peoples funerals who served in the wars.

Why is this song significant/important to NZ ?

The Last Post bugle call is courtesy of the New Zealand Defence Force. The Last Post was used in wartime to tell people the battle was over for the day.The Rouse is a bugle call that is often played after the 1 minute of silence at a service.

What is the history behind the last post - why was it played and when

It originated with British troops stationed in the Netherlands, where it drew on an older Dutch custom, called taptoe, from which comes the term tattoo as in Military tattoo. The taptoe was also used to signal the end of the day, but originated from a signal that beer taps had to be shut, hence that the day had ended.

What does this song represent?

The Last Post is the bugle call that signifies the end of the day's activities.  It is also sounded at military funerals to indicate that the soldier has gone to his final rest and at commemorative services such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day
